"My Declaration of Independence"

"I am free from the power of the enemy because of the blood of Jesus - He has made me free. I will not be controlled any longer. Jesus has set me free. I no longer have to submit to the enemies tyranny. Greater is He that is in me, than he that is in the world."

When you are truly free, that thing cannot tempt you any longer, it has no power to draw you any longer. When I was set free from cigarettes, I no longer had to smoke again. It no longer had drawing power - I did not desire it. I filled that lust, with life in Jesus. My craving now is after Jesus and His Word. No longer do I desire cigarettes or drugs or whatever I tried to fill the void with from my past.

Why do you start to do drugs, drinking, cigarettes, anyway??? Because you were empty. You were dying and on the road to death. Your desire was of the things that caused death because sin reigns in you. You were unworthy, you were guilty, you were living in your flesh and pursuing your own way, trying to fill every selfish desire in your life.

Destruction came. You needed a Savior to save you from yourself and your wicked ways. Jesus came to take away your guilt. It was already done, but you didn't know it, you were not told, you were in blindness and darkness. He shined the light of His glorious Gospel and you saw yourself for what you really were - a condemned sinner - condemned by the law - the knowledge of good and evil. He is good - you saw - pure, holy, righteous, and you were evil - you knew, unholy, unrighteous, unclean - as filthy rags. You needed to partake of the tree of life, lest you die in your wickedness and condemnation.

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. He imparts His life for yours. His good for your evil. You are made the righteousness of God in His - Jesus Christ. You are made free by His sacrifice. You live and move and have your being in Him. You live in eternal life. You are free! Whom the Son has set free, is free indeed! Death is swallowed up in victory! For this purpose was the Son of God manifest - to destroy the works of the evil one! You now live in Him - your life, your movement, and very being are His. The old life dies daily. His life in you swallow's up the old man and you have new life in victory!

Whom the Son sets free, is free indeed!
